Repeat Prescriptions

When the doctor puts you on a medication that you need to take for a prolonged period you will be given your medication. The doctor will decide how many repeats of your medication they would like you to have before reviewing you again in clinic.

Important Note:
We ask patients to avoid ordering prescriptions urgently. If a prescription is requested on an urgent basis it will be available 24 hours later for collection at the surgery.

Repeat Prescriptions Information

Where your medication has been computerised, please indicate on the tear-off portion of your prescription the item(s) you require.

Prescriptions are normally ready for collection two full working days later.

Where you require your prescription to be sent, you are asked to include a stamped addressed envelope for its return. Please allow seven days for prescriptions by post.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked at least once a year to review these; certain medication may require more regular review. A notification message should appear on your repeat prescription slip when one is due.

Medication reviews are undertaken by the GP and can either be a face-to-face appointment or alternatively more are being undertaken over the telephone as a telephone consultation.

There are a couple of exceptions where our nursing staff will review medication if you attend one of our specialist clinics e.g. diabetes or asthma but it is always good to check if you are not sure.

As soon as you get this message on your prescription slip and to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions please book an appointment which could be a telephone consultation or a face-to-face appointment.

Repeat Dispensing

If you, or someone you care for, use the same medicines regularly, you may be able to benefit from repeat dispensing from your pharmacist.  This means you won't have to visit the surgery every time you need more medicines.

Prescribing of Over The Counter Medicines is Changing

Your GP, nurse or pharmacist will not generally give you a prescription for over the counter medicines for a range of minor health concerns.

Instead, over the counter medicines are available to buy in a pharmacy or supermarket in your local community.
